Greinke to make rehab start Friday

The SportsXchange

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke is scheduled to return to the mound for a minor-league rehab start on Friday for Class A Rancho Cucamonga, the team announced Thursday.

Greinke, who broke his left collarbone on April 11 when San Diego Padres outfielder Carlos Quentin charged the mound after Greinke hit him with a pitch, could be back pitching for the Dodgers on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The right-hander is ahead of scheduled in his recovery from the injury to his non-throwing side. After the incident, the Dodgers projected that Greinke would be out eight weeks. But he has kept in shape and thrown bullpen sessions while the collarbone healed.

At the time of the injury, Greinke was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts after signing with the Dogers during the offseason.
