Green Bay Packers Drop Slightly in Power Rankings After Loss to New York Giants

Yahoo Contributor Network

COMMENTARY | The Green Bay Packers took a tough loss once again this week to the New York Giants by a final score of 27-13. Scott Tolzien and the Green Bay offense were unable to put the football into the end zone, and once again the Packers defense gave up too many plays. With the loss, the Packers fell to 5-5 and their playoff chances are most certainly in doubt.

The question that many NFL analysts are asking is, how far should the Packers fall in the rankings due to their latest loss?

Obviously, the Packers are still reeling due to losing Aaron Rodgers a couple weeks ago, but his return date is coming closer and closer. Eddie Lacy was unable to get anything going this past week, but has the chance to have big games each and every week. Should they drop too far in the rankings, or should they only drop a couple spots?

Where the Green Bay Packers are in Week 12 Power Rankings:
CBS Sports, Pat Kirwan

Pat Kirwan is a very respected NFL writer and he believes that the Packers only fall one spot to 13th. This is a very generous power ranking for Green Bay, but with Aaron Rodgers returning soon and a solid all-around football team, they are still very much in the playoff picture.

Where the Green Bay Packers are in Week 12 Power Rankings: NBC Sports, Mike Florio

Mike Florio ranked the Packers at 14th in his Week 12 power rankings. The Packers are heading into what is shaping up to be a "must-win" type of week against the Vikings this coming week. Obviously they have favorable odds even if Scott Tolzien starts, but they can't afford to drop to 5-6. Things are not looking great in Green Bay, but there is certainly still hope.

Where the Green Bay Packers are in Week 12 Power Rankings: ESPN

The Packers fell to 15th in these power rankings by ESPN. They haven't slid too far in these three power rankings and rightfully so. Was the loss to the Giants a bad one? Yes. The Packers are in disarray without Aaron Rodgers, but they aren't even close to being out of the playoff chase yet.

Overall, the Packers are not being given up on by anyone just yet. They obviously need to figure things out and come away with a big Week 12 win against the Vikings, but with Aaron Rodgers hoping to return for their Thanksgiving day match-up with the Detroit Lions, things are looking up. If they're able to pull out the win this week, it will be a huge help to their playoff chances.
