Gray Maynard vs. Fabricio Camoes Latest Bout to Move from UFC 176
The fallout from the UFC 176 cancellation was fast and furious on Wednesday with the event’s undercard bouts quickly finding new dates.
The latest, a premier UFC 176 lightweight bout between Gray Maynard and Fabricio Camoes, has been moved to the UFC Fight Night 50 card on Aug. 16 in Bangor, Maine.
Maynard (11-3-1, 1 NC) is coming off back-to-back loses. After fighting former champion Frankie Edgar in two epic wars in 2011, Maynard only competed once in 2012, defeating Clay Guida by split decision. The 35-year-old wants to forget all about 2013. He lost to T.J. Grant and Nate Diaz by first-round technical knockouts in those two outings.
Maynard last competed at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on Nov. 30, 2013. He has since changed training camps, switching from American Kickboxing Academy to Power MMA and Fitness in Arizona.
Camoes (14-8-1) made his UFC debut in at UFC 106 in November 2009 against veteran Caol Uno. The two fought to a majority draw. He was then lined up against Kurt Pellegrino at UFC 111. After losing to Pellegrino by rear naked choke, Camoes was released by the organization. After earning two wins outside of the UFC, including a unanimous decision over Efrain Escudero, Camoes was brought back.
The 35-year-old Brazilian had a successful return to the Octagon with a first-round submission over Tommy Hayden in January 2012. Like Maynard, Camoes is also coming off back-to-back losses. He’s lost to Melvin Guillard and Jim Miller in his last two outings and hopes to rebound when he faces Maynard.
In addition to moving Maynard vs. Camoes to the Fight Night card in Maine, UFC officials on Wednesday also added a welterweight bout pitting Seth Baczynski against newcomer Alan Jouban to the event.
