Grant's deal with Packers reduced if he goes on IR

The SportsXchange

The contract that Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant signed earlier in the week is a split contract, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The one-year deal is for the league minimum $700,000 but is reduced to $368,000 if the oft-injured Grant ends up on injured reserve.

Split one-year deals are usually used on rookies and second-year players but Grant is a veteran.

Green Bay has been riddled with injuries this year, including at running back. Starter Cedric Benson is out and backup James Starks was placed on IR this week.

Grant missed all but one game for Green Bay with an ankle injury two years ago when the Packers won the Super Bowl. He was not re-signed after last year. He worked out for several teams this year before playing briefly for the Washington Redskins.
