The Dutchman, who had been the early favorite to win the PFA Player of the Year award after his blistering start to life at Old Trafford, has not netted for the Red Devils since Feb. 10 against Everton and enters Sunday's bout with Stoke City looking to break his drought, but that has not diminished his impact in Ferguson's eyes.
"Listen, Van Persie was fantastic on Monday [against Manchester City]. Along with Phil Jones, he was our best player," Ferguson told reporters. "I haven't paid attention to the selections for Footballer of the Year since 1999 when we won the treble and David Ginola of Tottenham was given Player of the Year.
"For this year, I don't watch all of the players all the time but, if I had a vote, Van Persie would surely be up there."
Despite his barren run, Van Persie has still scored at a rate of more than one every other game in United colors this season, netting 23 in 41 appearances.
