Glover Teixeira Says He's Ready for Jon Jones: Fan Reaction

Yahoo Contributor Network

Coming into his UFC debut against Kyle Kingsbury, Glover Teixeira was one of the highly touted light-heavyweights fighting outside the promotion. The Brazilian lived up to the hype at UFC 146, stopping Kingsbury at the 1:53 mark of the first round of their encounter via arm triangle.

With his dominant performance against Kingsbury, Teixeira, made it clear that he's a force to be reckoned with at 205 pounds. The 32 year-old hopes to someday challenge current light-heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, for the title, and he's confident he'll emerge victorious.

"Listen men -- you know -- I train so hard and I have to believe in myself right?" Teixiera said during an interview with Ariel Helwani. "People [are] already saying I [can] challenge Jon Jones… many people that fight in the UFC want to challenge the champion. I have a lot of work to put [before] I can challenge Jon Jones, challenge the champion. But if they put me in a fight with Jon Jones right now, I'll get the title."

Teixeira is currently set to face Fabio Maldonado at UFC 153, and he plans to put on another imposing performance on Oct. 13, when the two square up at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I expect Glover to emerge victorious, and that should move him a little closer towards a shot at the light-heavyweight title.

"I'm ready to fight," Teixeira added. "I trained just as hard, and I'm excited to put on a show for these guys. … I feel pretty good about it."

Teixeira seems to be the real deal, and I wouldn't mind watching him test his skills against "Bones." The Brazilian is a dangerous striker, and he's skilled enough on the ground to threaten Jones with submissions.

However, like most fighters who step up to challenge Jones, Teixeira will have to deal with the UFC light-heavyweight champion's 84.5 inch reach and phenomenal wrestling, and no one has been able to figure out how to get past that yet.
