In the first game of this series between the San Francisco Giants and Arizona Diamondbacks, Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt got the best of Giants starter Tim Lincecum with a career-high five RBIs en route to a 7-2 win. For game two of the series, two players named to the All-Star Game this year will face off in a nice pitching duel. While there's not much on the line anymore in terms of standings for making the playoffs, Matt Cain versus Wade Miley is one of the better matchups of the day.
Cain has looked like the one Giant starter who is most ready for the postseason. A winner of his last five decisions, he has thrown back-to-back starts with one run against him. Similar to teammate Barry Zito, he has also been on the winning end of games he starts, for the Giants are 7-1 in his last eight games. With few poor outings since the All-Star break, Cain is prepared to lead the Giants to the playoffs as the team's ace.
As for Miley, he has been solid for the Diamondbacks all season long. While September has been a rough month for the rookie (5.76 ERA and 1.64 WHIP in four starts), he has greatly benefited from excellent run support. In his last start against the Giants at home on September 15, Miley earned the loss after allowing eight hits and three earned runs, including a homer to Buster Posey.
The San Francisco Giants will host the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park located in San Francisco, CA on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 7:15 p.m. PT. This will be the second game in a three-game series.
Diamondbacks lead series 9-7.
