Giants’ Tim Lincecum Preps for Playoffs Against Diamondbacks: Fan’s Preview

Yahoo Contributor Network

The San Francisco Giants are well rested for this final stretch of games. After clinching the NL West title on Saturday night against the San Diego Padres, manager Bruce Bochy chose to rest most of his regulars for the Sunday afternoon series finale. After the not-so-surprising 6-4 loss to the Padres, the Giants regulars got another day of rest with the last off day of the regular season.

Now rested for the last nine games of the season, the Giants will look to stay on track and focused on their great hitting and pitching. With the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals probably a little too far out of reach in the standings, the Giants will should use these last games as a way to stay sharp and ready for whomever they meet in the divisional round series.

This first game against the Arizona Diamondbacks will be especially important for starter Tim Lincecum. He received extra rest after being scratched from his originally scheduled start Sunday for Yusmeiro Petit and a strong conclusion to the regular season will be a positive sign heading into the playoffs. A winner of four of his last six starts with a 2.78 ERA, a few more solid starts from Lincecum would be a great way for him to prepare for postseason play.

The San Francisco Giants will host the Arizona Diamondbacks at AT&T Park located in San Francisco, CA on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at 7:15 p.m. PT. This will be the first game in a three-game series.
