Giants send Sandoval to DL

The San Francisco Giants placed third baseman Pablo Sandoval on the disabled list Tuesday with a strained left foot.

Sandoval was wearing a walking boot on the foot in the clubhouse on Tuesday in Pittsburgh but walking without much of a limp, according to CSNBayArea.com. Earlier in the day during a radio interview, Giants president Larry Baer called Sandoval's injury a hairline fracture.

The Giants penciled in Joaquin Arias to start at third base in Sandoval's place on Tuesday night against the Pirates and recalled Triple-A infieder Nick Noonan to fill the roster spot.

Sandoval, 26, is hitting .289 with eight home runs and 37 RBI in 57 games this season
