Brown got hurt returning an interception of New York Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith.
Initially announced as a sprained knee, the Giants learned today that Brown had torn the ligament after an MRI.
Brown was tied for second in the NFL last season with eight interceptions, leading the legue with 307 return yards.
Will Hill is suspended for the first four games for violating the NFL substance-abuse policy.
The Giants have cut linebacker Aaron Curry, a former Seattle Seahawks first-round draft pick selected fourth overall out of Wake Forest.
“We have to understand its a sport and a business, it is NOT an evaluation of personal worth,” Curry wrote on his Twitter account.
