The San Francisco Giants reinstated outfielder Melky Cabrera Friday after he completed his 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy. However, the All-Star will not play in the postseason, CSN Bay Area reported. The Giants were required to either add Cabrera to their 40-man roster or release him once his suspension ended. Cabrera batted .346 and led the major leagues in hits and runs scored when he was suspended Aug. 15. He had to forfeit $1.5 million of his $6 million salary. To make room for Cabrera, the Giants outrighted right-handed pitcher Shane Loux and outfielder Justin Christian to Class AAA Fresno. Because Cabrera is now on the Giants roster, the team gets to keep its window of exclusivity to negotiate a new contract him before he becomes a free agent after the World Series.
