The Giants will announce a promotion for two of their coaches on Thursday, elevating Kevin Gilbride, Jr. to wide receivers coach and Sean Ryan to quarterbacks coach. The news was first reported by FootballScoop.com.
Gilbride, Jr., the son of Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, was a candidate for a job with the Buccaneers under their new offensive coordinator, Mike Sullivan. Sullivan had been the Giants' quarterbacks coach last season when the team won Super Bowl XLVI. However the Giants wouldn't allow Tampa Bay to interview Gilbride, Jr., implying they were going to give him a promotion.
That upgrade in job title comes as he replaces Ryan, who in turn moves up to replace Sullivan. Gilbride, Jr. had been an offensive quality-control coach for the team, and Ryan had been the receivers coach the past two seasons.
The news is expected to be made official later on Thursday.
