Is Canty a cap concern for Giants?

The Giants cut their roster down Monday morning to reach the NFL’s roster limit of 75 players.

Among the 15 moves the team made, two veterans who had offseason knee surgery and have yet to practice this summer, DT Chris Canty and TE Travis Beckum, were placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list. They will miss at least the first six games of the season.

OL Brandon Mosley, a fourth-round draft pick this year who was working at both guard and tackle, was placed on season-ending injured reserve because of an ankle injury.

The team also cut veteran CB Antwaun Molden, whom they signed as a free agent on April 16, and waived 11 players: TE Ryan Purvis, DT Carlton Powell, DB Chris Horton, WR Julian Talley, WR Brandon Collins, TE Christian Hopkins, DB Brandon Bing, DB Jojo Nicolas, RB Joe Martinek, OT Joel Reinders and DT Oren Wilson.

According to NFL rules, the earliest Canty and Beckum can be activated is the day after the sixth regular-season weekend (Oct. 16). From that day up until the day after the ninth regular-season weekend (Nov. 6), players on reserve/PUP may begin a 21-day practice period before a decision has to be made whether to activate, terminate, or keep them on the reserve/PUP list.
