Giants OT Diehl injures MCL

Giants ORT David Diehl suffered an MCL injury in his right knee in Sunday’s win against the Buccaneers.

Head coach Tom Coughlin confirmed to reporters that Diehl had swelling and received an MRI.

“I can’t tell you anything more than what you are asking me. There’s an MCL, don’t know anything more, and I’m not going to be able to comment on anything else about the knee,” he said.

Diehl suffered the injury in the first quarter and Sean Locklear took his spot with Will Beatty coming in to play left tackle. Diehl has missed only four starts in his NFL career, which began in 2003.

The way we see it

The Giants have to adjjust again up front. They have had to do so several times over recent seasons, including last year when Diehl's insertion at left tackle helped spur good things late in the season. Now Beatty returns to the starting lineup, and it's interesting he was behind Locklear before that despite being healthy. This looks like a good pass-blocking line, but the run blocking will be tested. It's a short week to get ready for Carolina on Thursday.
