Giants OK with sharing park if A's move

The SportsXchange

The San Francisco Giants are willing to temporarily share AT&T Park with the Oakland A's if they build a new ballpark -- as long as the team does not move to San Jose.

"They've got to come up with a long-term plan," Giants president Larry Baer told the San Jose Mercury-News on Thursday. "Once that's arrived at, then maybe you'll take a step back and say, 'Is there something we can do to be helpful?' As a neighborly thing."

The Giants have territorial rights to the South Bay and Major League Baseball last year blocked a proposal by the A's to move to San Jose.

The A's want to move out of O.Co Coliseum, the fourth-oldest park in the major leagues. They have played there since moving from Kansas City, Mo., in 1968.

The Los Angeles Dodgers shared Dodger Stadium with the Angels while Anaheim was building a new ballpark in the 1965 and the New York Yankees played at Shea Stadium (the Mets' home) in 1975 while Yankee Stadium was being remodeled.
