Giants minor leaguer gets 50-game suspension

San Francisco Giants Minor League third baseman Nathanael Javier was suspended for 50 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, the commissioner's office announced on Tuesday.

Javier, 17, hit .229 in 236 at-bats for the Dominican Summer League Giants in 2013. The third baseman's suspension will take effect at the start of the 2014 DSL season.

The commisioner's office reported that the test was positive for metabolites of Stanozolol.
