After a promising start to the series, the San Francisco Giants' homestand ended on a disappointing note with a series split concluding with two losses to the Atlanta Braves. Still holding a 2 1/2 game lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants will have a great chance at extending their NL West lead by facing the two teams with the worst records in the National League. First up, the Giants head to the Lone Star state to face the Houston Astros.
The Astros at 40-88 have the worst record in the majors and have only won seven games since the All-Star break. After trading away Wandy Rodriguez, Chris Johnson, Brett Myers, J.A. Happ, and Carlos Lee, the team has clearly been in full-rebuild mode and has not been a very competitive opponent because of that. With Bud Norris' 0-10 record and 6.78 ERA in his last 14 starts, he should be easy pickings for a Giants team hoping to come away with many victories on this road trip.
For the Giants, Matt Cain will need to continue the great pitching from his last start that helped him beat the Dodgers to cap off a series sweep. With a career 0-2 record and 6.52 ERA at Minute Maid Park, his history in Houston hasn't been the greatest but shouldn't have too much difficulty beating an Astros lineup that only has one healthy dangerous hitter in Jose Altuve.
The San Francisco Giants will visit the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park located in Houston, TX on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 5:05 p.m. PT. This will be the first game in a three-game series.
