The U.S. national team lost to Germany in their final group stage match at the World Cup which meant they had a better chance of advancing if Ghana lost to Portugal. Thanks to an unlucky own goal and a terrible mistake by the Ghana keeper that is exactly what happened.

Ghana went down 1-0 in the first half when John Boye deflected the ball into his own net for an own goal.

It appeared that the ball took a higher bounce than Boye was expecting.

Boye was expectedly devastated and his teammates were quick to try and pick him up.

Later, after equalizing the game, another goal by Ghana would have been devastating to the U.S. national team. But then Ronaldo was given a gift by the Ghana keeper when he inexplicably batted a loose ball down instead of just catching it. The ball ended up right at the feet of Ronaldo who was all alone and easily put the ball into the back of the net.

It looked like Fatawu Dauda could have easily caught the ball.

But instead, the ball ended up in the worst possible spot.
