ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Georgia secondary coach Scott Lakatos has resigned after four years on the staff.

Coach Mark Richt said Thursday Lakatos left because of personal reasons. No further details were disclosed.

Lakatos joined the staff in 2010 following six years as Connecticut's secondary coach. His 2011 defensive backfield included All-America safety Bacarri Rambo and Paul Hornung Award winner Brandon Boykin.

In a statement, Richt said he has a ''great amount of respect'' for Lakatos ''as a coach and as a person.''

Georgia, which finished 8-5 with a Gator Bowl loss to Nebraska, ranked ninth in the Southeastern Conference in pass defense.
