George Mason 74, UMBC 63

George Mason jumped out to a 21-4 lead and cruised to a 74-63 win over Maryland-Baltimore County on Tuesday at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va.

Sherrod Wright, who finished with a game-high 23 points, scored the Patriots' first five points. He had all 13 of his first-half points in the early run, converting five of six shots, including three of four from behind the 3-point arc.

Marko Gujanicic came off the bench to score 14 points for the Patriots (6-3), who got 11 points and seven rebounds from Jonathan Arledge and 10 points and three blocked shots from Erik Copes.

Brett Roseboro led the Retrievers (2-6) with 14 points. Chase Plummer scored 13 points for UMBC, and Ryan Cook added 12.

The Retrievers trailed by as many as 19 points before scoring the last nine points of the half. The stretch, which included two 3-pointers from Brian Neller, cut the Patriots' lead to 30-20 at the break.

UMBC pulled within seven points of George Mason three times in the second half but never got closer. Five consecutive points by Arledge with about 10 minutes to go stretched the advantage to 58-45.

George Mason plays at home again Saturday vs. Northern Iowa. UMBC is back in action Thursday at home against American University.
