George Mason 60, William & Mary 58

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Sophomore center Erik Copes made a jumper with 1 second remaining, giving George Mason a dramatic 60-58 victory over William & Mary in a Colonial Athletic Association game Saturday at Patriot Center.

Freshman guard Patrick Holloway came off the bench to score a team-high 15 points for the Patriots (17-11, 10-6 CAA), who have won three of their last four. Sophomore guard Marcus Thornton scored a game-high 22 points for William & Mary (12-15, 6-10), which had won three in a row.

William & Mary led 30-29 at the break. The Tribe extended its lead early in the second half, outscoring the Patriots 13-6 over the first 5:23 to go up 43-34 with 14:37 to play.

Brandon Britt made a 3-pointer with 11:14 left to put William & Mary ahead 50-37, but George Mason mounted a 14-0 run to take a 51-50 lead on a 3-pointer by Holloway with 4:36 remaining.

The Patriots stretched their lead to five before Thornton hit a 3-pointer, drawing his team within two at 56-54 with 1:17 to go. The Tribe tied the game when Tim Rusthoven scored with 14 seconds left, but Copes made the winner just before time expired.
