CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Tashan Newsome scored 15 points and all five starters scored in double figures as Gardner-Webb defeated Campbell 71-57 Thursday night in the Big South Conference tournament quarterfinals.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (21-11), who jumped ahead 16-4, led 34-26 at halftime. A layup by Marvelle Harris (13 points) pulled the Camels (13-20) within 40-37, but Gardner-Webb scored 10 consecutive points to lead 50-37 on a layup by Tyler Strange.
When Newsome was later fouled on a 3-point attempt, he made all three free throws and the Runnin' Bulldogs retained their double-digit lead, 56-45. They went on to win their eighth straight.
Strange scored 14 points for Gardner-Webb, Donta Harper and Kevin Hartley had 12 apiece and Jerome Hill added 10. The Runnin' Bulldogs won it at the stripe, hitting 22 of 26 attempts. Campbell was 6 of 13.
Andrew Ryan led Campbell with 17 points and Trey Freeman added 11.
