SPOILERS! Spoilers for everything up through Season 6 of Game of Thrones YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

This past season had a lot of wild and crazy theories out there. Some of them were good…some of them were very odd. While a few ended up coming true, others did not, and have made their way to the great Game of Thrones Fan Theories Graveyeard in the sky.

But if we know anything about Game of Thrones, it’s that just because something’s dead doesn’t mean it can’t come back to life.

One really good theory was the theory that Arya and Waif were the same person, Fight Club style. You have to admit that it was kinda weird that no one bothered to stop Waif as she beat up Arya in the streets of Braavos. Waif also only seemed to be around whenever Arya showed up. Was there really someone tormenting Arya, or was she beating up herself internally?

In the end, Arya killed Waif, and brought her face into the Hall of Many Faces…however we never actually saw Arya kill Waif. Did it actually happen? Is Waif dead? Does this mean that this theory is really, and truly dead? Or is Game of Thrones messing with us, again, and Arya is going through some intense self discovery?

During the Game of Thrones panel at Comic-Con on Friday afternoon, this theory was brought up to Waif herself, Faye Marsay, who was quick to shoot it down:

“I think the theory is a cool one, it would have been really cool,” she told the packed Hall H crowd. “But I think Maisie [Williams] is Arya, and the way it is now is the best way. The theory is good and creative, but I think the writers have got it right.”

The same question was then posed to showrunners, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who happened to be sitting further down the panel.

“Are people reading into it too much?” They asked back to the crowd, and then SHRUGGED.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ARE WE READING TOO MUCH INTO THIS, OR HAVE WE FINALLY FOUND A FAR-OUT THERE GAME OF THRONES THEORY THAT IS ACTUALLY GOING TO COME TRUE?

That’s all the showrunners commented on regarding the theory, and went back to being tight lipped about EVERYTHING Game of Thrones Season 7. This means we’ve got to interpret their shrug as best we can. So maybe don’t go completely forgetting about the Arya-Fight-Club-split-personalities theory just yet.
