Galliani doubtful of summer Honda move

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani believes that CSKA Moscow star Keisuke Honda will not arrive at the club before January.

The Rossoneri have been linked with a move for the Japan international throughout the summer, but the 68-year-old says he cannot come to San Siro until the expiration of his contract unless his current situation changes.

“Unless there is an external intervention, such as from one of his sponsors, Honda will only arrive in January,” Galliani told Sky Sports Italia. “The player’s entourage, including his brother, are in Moscow to discuss the move to Milan, but only because he is out of contract on December 31.

"CSKA are a rich club who asked for a lot of money to release him early, so it seems difficult for us to meet their demands unless a sponsor contributes.”

Galliani went on to say that Robinho needs to prove himself at the club after a disappointing 2012-13 campaign.

“Robinho agreed to cut his wages and extended his contract. I told him: 'you didn’t do much last season, so you are basically a new signing and have to prove what you can do'.

“It’s not that Robinho wanted to leave Milan, he just wanted a return to his ‘home’ Santos, but as it wasn’t possible we all decided to begin again."

Finally, the 68-year-old said that he has no regrets on missing out on the signing of Carlos Tevez, who joined Juventus this summer, because the club has Mario Balotelli.

“If we’d had Tevez, then we would not now have Balotelli," he added.
