Galaxy acquire Hoffman from Union

Chandler Hoffman is going back to Los Angeles.

The UCLA product was traded by the Philadelphia Union to the LA Galaxy on Friday in exchange for a conditional draft pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, the clubs announced. Exact conditions of the deal were not disclosed.

Hoffman, a Generation adidas signing and the 13th overall selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, played sparingly during his rookie season in Philadelphia. The forward played in seven games, starting just two, and he did not register a goal or an assist. He also spent time in 2012 on loan with USL Pro side Harrisburg City Islanders.

"Chandler and I had an honest conversation about where he stood and we decided that this trade gives him an opportunity that he would not have had within our team this season," Philadelphia Union manager John Hackworth said in a team statement. "Our organization thinks very highly of Chandler, both on and off the field, and we wish him the best of luck as he continues to develop in his career."

Chandler joins a crowded forward corps LA, one that includes Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan and rising stars Jose Villarreal, Jack McBean and recent Homegrown Player signing Gyasi Zardes. He is slated to train with the Galaxy for the first time on Saturday, a day before the two-time defending MLS Cup champion opens the season against the Chicago Fire at the Home Depot Center.
