G Purvis to leave N.C. State for UConn

North Carolina State guard Rodney Purvis is headed to Connecticut.

The freshman is transferring after one season with the Wolfpack, he told the Raleigh (N.C.) News and Observer on Friday. NCAA transfer rules require Purvis to sit out in 2013-14 before he becomes eligible the following season at UConn.

Purvis averaged 8.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per game this season.

He cited a desire to return to his home state and to play for coach Kevin Ollie as the reasons for choosing UConn, which was ineligible for postseason play this year because of its failure to meet the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate standards.

"I really trust coach Ollie," Purvis said, according to the News and Observer. "They have a great tradition of producing NBA guards and that's where I want to be someday."
