FSU starter Chris Casher eligible, LB Thomas suspended indefinitely

Florida State announced two player-related status updates on Friday afternoon in advance of the Seminoles' home opener against The Citadel.

Chris Casher missed the Oklahoma State game because of an academic matter. With a school review completed, he is now immediately eligible for competition. Casher is listed as the first-string SAM linebacker on the depth chart for 2014 after spending most of his redshirt freshman season in the rotation along the defensive line.

With a hybrid player like Christian Jones gone, the 6-4, 250-pound Casher has an opportunity to emerge after recording 25 tackles in 2013.

The school also announced that redshirt freshman linebacker Matthew Thomas, a former five-star prospect, has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules. Thomas was competing for a starting linebacker spot in spring practice, but a reported ankle injury kept him out of the opener.

The school did not put a length on Thomas' suspension, but Rivals' Florida state site, Warchant.com, reported that he "should be able to return by mid-season, specifically the Oct. 18 home game versus Notre Dame."
