Francona to interview for Indians job

The SportsXchange

Terry Francona is expected to interview for the Cleveland Indians managerial job next week, according to WTAM radio in Cleveland.

Francona will be in Cleveland either Wednesday or Thursday, the radio station reported Saturday.

Francona managed the Boston Red Sox to World Series titles in 2004 and 2007. He was fired last year.

The Indians fired Manny Acta earlier this week and hired Sandy Alomar Jr. as the interim manager through the end of the regular season. Alomar and Francona are believed to be the only confirmed candidates for the job so far.

Francona was listed by several media outlets on Friday as a candidate. He is currently an analyst for ESPN.

Francona worked with the Indians as a special assistant in 2001 under team president Mark Shapiro, who was the team's general manager at the time.
