Tom Marshall: Putting the Mexico draw against Jamaica into perspective

As the Mexican players walked into the tunnel in Estudio Azteca following a 0-0 draw with Jamaica, El Tri captain Francisco 'Maza' Rodriguez appeared to raise his middle finger to the press. Rodriguez blamed 'yellow journalism' for sensationalizing the gesture.

"I have an injured finger," Rodriguez told Televisa Deportes. "It was not intentional. We have a yellow press in Mexico, and they'll do whatever they can to sell newspapers."

Jamaica frustrated Mexico in the opening match of the Hexagonal, disrupting Mexico's rhythm and hitting out on swift counterattacks that produced some of the best chances of the game. The Reggae Boyz had never earned a point in Mexico in World Cup qualifying, and El Tri hadn't dropped a point at home for 15 competitive matches.

The Club America center back refused to speak to the assembled press in the mixed zone after the match.
