Dario Franchitti claimed his fifth career pole in Toronto on Friday after posting the fastest qualifying time for the Honda Indy Toronto.

Franchitti covered the 1.7-mile, 11-turn Exhibition Place street course in 59.6756 seconds. Sebastien Bourdais will start alongside Franchitti in the front row for Saturday's race after posting the second fastest qualifying time.

"It feels good to get our third pole of the year," Franchitti said. "I made it difficult this morning. I made a mistake in Turn 5, took the right side off the car. The guys had to work and repair the car."

Will Power and Tony Kanaan were next in qualifying and will share Row 2. James Jakes and Scott Dixon qualified in Row 3, but Jakes received a 10-spot grid penalty for an unapproved engine change after the Pocono race last week.

Series points leader Helio Castroneves qualified eighth. Defending race winner Ryan Hunter-Reay, trailing Castroneves by 23 points in the standings, qualified seventh.

I The 85-lap race will be the first in IndyCar Series history to use a standing start. Drivers practiced the standing starts from a pit box at the end of pit lane during the Friday morning session.
