Surf fans have a handful of events to keep them entertained during the month of September 2012. One of them is the Foster's Belmar Pro. It is slated to take place Thursday, September 13, 2012 through Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the 18th Avenue Beach located in Belmar, New Jersey. Surf fans unable to make it to the beach in person will be able to catch all the action via the event's website. Here are a few more details:

Event Basics

The Foster's Belmar Pro consists of several surfing events. The events include the Fins Pro Junior, the Hannah Women's Pro, the 8Eighty Longboard Pro and the Muscle Milk Masters Pro. For those surf fans that are interested, a full listing of all the Foster's Belmar Pro events is available online. Because of all the venerable events on tap, surf fans may expect a bevy of top name surfers to be in attendance. Heat draws for several of the surfing competitions are already posted on the event's website.

Surfers Expected to Compete

The Fins Pro Junior is an ASP 1-Star surfing competition. As such, it has attracted surfers from all across the globe. Countries to be represented during the competition include the United States, Japan, Venezuela, Peru and the Dominican Republic. It is expected to kick off on Friday with a surf heat between Tyler Gunter (USA), P.J. Raia (USA), Michael Ciaramella (USA) and Brian Coutu (DOM). Other junior surfers to keep an eye on during the competition include Griffin Colapinto (USA), Tyler Killeen (USA), Cam Richards (USA) and Hiroto Ohhara (JPN).

The Hannah Women's Pro is expected to feature surfers Maddie Paterson, Emily Ruppert, Cassidy Kwiecinski, Darsha Pigford and Kim Biggs. The event's quarterfinals are expected to take place on Saturday. Other surfers anticipated to compete in Belmar this weekend include Dean Randazzo (USA), Buttons Kaluhiokalani (HAW), Tony Silvagni (USA) and Ty Roach (USA).

Surf Forecast

The surf forecast for the Foster's Belmar Pro looks promising as well. The waves are expected to be in the 1 to 2 foot range for the start of the event on Thursday. The swell is also forecasted to increase over the course of the event and peak on Sunday. Sunday's waves are presently predicted to be in the 3 to 5 foot range. If you ask me, that should make for an exciting round of finals.

About the Venue

Surfers that have never been to Belmar before are in for a real treat. The beaches and boardwalk are well maintained. There is also affordable public transportation and ample restaurants located in the area. One place worth checking out is the Matisse Restaurant located on 13th and Ocean Avenue. It is a favorite among the locals. Additional information about the area is available on the Belmar Tourism's website.
