Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson was released from jail Monday after apologizing to a Florida judge for showing a lack of respect while in court last week.

Johnson, 35, was in a Broward County court June 10 because of a probation violation. Circuit Judge Kathleen McHugh sentenced Johnson to 30 days in jail after he slapped his attorney's backside during the proceedings.

McHugh reduced Johnson's jail term to seven days after accepting his apology. Attorney Adam Swickle said Johnson meant no disrespect and that the slap was only meant to show appreciation for doing a good job.

Johnson was originally put on probation after he was arrested for domestic violence last year against his then wife, TV reality start Evelyn Lozada.

Johnson was released by the Miami Dolphins after his arrest. He spent most of his 11-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals. He also spent a season with the New England Patriots.
