Former Cy Young winner Webb retiring
Former National League Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb is retiring from baseball.
Webb's agents at Millennium Sports -- Jonathan Maurer and Mike Montana -- made the announcement through a press release on Monday.
The 33-year-old has not pitched in the major leagues since 2009 because of shoulder injuries. He was attempting to come back this year.
"With retirement, Brandon looks forward to focusing on more time with his family," the statement read. "He would like to thank all the countless coaches, players and friends for their support during his career."
Webb won the NL Cy Young Award in 2006 and had a five-year run as a dominant pitcher for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
He was a three-time All-Star who averaged 227 innings from 2004-08. He went 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA in 2006. He followed that by going 40-17 over the next two seasons and placed second in the Cy Young balloting both years.
