Flyers' top lines get shake-up from Berube

The SportsXchange

On his first full day on the job, Philadelphia Flyers head coach Craig Berube put a new spin on the team's top lines.

At the Flyers' morning skate, scoreless first-line center Claude Giroux was accompanied by Wayne Simmonds and Scott Hartnell.

Berube also made defensive changes, using Kimmo Timonen and Luke Schenn on the first line.

Ray Emery, who had just one loss last season with the Chicago Blackhawks, is likely to start ahead of Steve Mason.

Berube makes his NHL head-coaching debut Tuesday against Florida. He replaced Peter Laviolette, who was fired Monday after the Flyers started 0-3-0.

"I've always been a Flyer in my mind," said Berube, who played parts of seven seasons with the Flyers and also played for and coached Philadelphia's top minor-league team in the American Hockey League.

The Flyers have three games, two on the power play, in three games.

Florida is 1-1-0. Goaltender Tim Thomas was solid in his first game in more than a year but was bombarded in the Panthers' 7-0 loss at St. Louis on Saturday.
