Flyers sign G Mason to extension

The Philadelphia Flyers signed goaltender Steve Mason to a one-year contract extension on Monday, the team announced.

The deal is worth $1.5 million, according to CSNPhilly.com.

Mason, 24, was acquired from Columbus at the trade deadline and made his Flyers debut on Saturday in relief of Ilya Bryzgalov.

Mason stopped all nine shots he faced in the third period of that game.

The Flyers have not announced which goaltender will start Philadelphia's next game, which is Tuesday against the New York Islanders.
