PHILADELPHIA -- Center Brayden Schenn scored twice, and goaltender Steve Mason made 17 saves to help the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 Sunday night.

The Flyers snapped a four-game losing streak. Philadelphia (40-29-9) closed within two points of the New York Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

Right wingers Matt Read and Zac Rinaldo and center Vincent Lecavalier added goals, and defenseman Mark Streit had three assists for Philadelphia, which went 0-2-2 in its previous four games.

Center Cody Hodgson and defenseman Mike Weber scored for Buffalo.

After a long stretch playing the NHL's top teams, the Flyers welcomed a visit from the league's worst team. The Sabres (21-48-9) are 1-6-1 in their past eight games.

Read gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead in the first period on his 21st goal. Streit fired a slap shot off the right post, and the rebound bounced out to Read, who ripped one off the left post and into the net.

Goals by Rinaldo, Schenn and Lecavalier increased the lead to 4-0 in the second period.

Read set up Philadelphia's second goal with a pass to Rinaldo, who one-timed a shot from the slot off goalie Nathan Lieuwen and in for only his second goal of the season.

Schenn then redirected Streit's slap shot from the point on the power play for his 19th goal. Lecavalier got his 19th later in the period on a breakout pass from Mason.

Hodgson snapped Mason's shutout bid with a tip-in goal on the power play in the third period. Weber got his first goal of the season with 2:12 left.

Schenn scored on a breakaway in the third to become sixth Flyer to reach 20 goals this season.

Lieuwen made 32 saves.
