Florida running back Mark Thompson isn’t going to Jacksonville for Saturday’s game vs. Georgia.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Thompson was cited by school police for marijuana possession just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday.

UFPD spokesperson Maj. Brad Barber said the officer smelled the odor of marijuana in the car and after a search discovered Thompson in possession of fewer than 20 grams of the substance.

Thompson was given a notice to appear for the misdemeanor violation and also cited for failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Florida announced Friday morning in an unintentionally funny tweet that Thompson wouldn’t be playing.

Thompson is Florida’s third-leading rusher in 2016 with 57 carries for 266 yards and two touchdowns. His absence means Lamical Perine and Jordan Scarlett will likely see more carries than normal or Jordan Cronkrite will get more carries.

A redshirt junior, Thompson had 10 carries for 65 yards against Missouri, Florida’s most recent game.
