Florida Atlantic got a game-high 23 points from senior Greg Gantt and held on for a 75-70 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette in a Sun Belt Conference basketball game Thursday night in Boca Raton, Fla.

The Owls (8-8, 3-2) led by 12 points at the half and by 14 with just over 14 minutes left, but the Ragin' Cajuns (6-10, 2-3) cut the gap down to six points with less than two minutes left.

Gantt, who has scored at least 23 points in seven consecutive games, hit two free throws with 30.9 seconds remaining to restore the lead to eight points, but the visitors weren't done.

Elfrid Payton's driving runner got the gap down to 74-70 with 9.2 seconds left, but Florida Atlantic's Stefan Moody was able to elude defenders and run time off the clock before getting the ball to teammate Kelvin Penn, who hit one free throw with 3.1 seconds left for the final margin.

Both teams were hot from the field, with the Cajuns shooting 50 percent and the Panthers 48.1 percent, but the Panthers made 18 of 21 free-throw attempts while the Cajuns struggled, missing 10 of their 21 opportunities.

Moody, making his second consecutive start since serving a three-game suspension, scored 16 points for the Owls.

Payton led Louisiana-Lafayette with 23 points, and Shawn Long added 22 for the Cajuns.
