Florida Atlantic got big games from senior guard Greg Gantt and freshman Stefan Moody and the Owls held off Arkansas State 72-65 for their first Sun Belt Conference win in men's college basketball Saturday night.

Gantt scored 28 points, just one off his season high recorded two nights earlier in a loss to South Alabama, and Moody matched his season high with 22 points to overcome Arkansas State's balance.

The Red Wolves (4-3, 0-2) had four players in double figures, led by junior forward Kendrick Washington and senior guard Marcus Hooten with 12 points each.

The Owls (3-4, 1-1) went into intermission down 32-31 but took the lead at 36-35 on Moody's dunk with 17:18 left.

They worked their way to an 11-point cushion at the 13:40 mark but let that get away, falling behind when forward Brandon Peterson's layup gave Arkansas State a 57-56 lead with 6:17 remaining.

Gantt's 3-pointer at 4:58 got the lead back for good for the Owls, but they couldn't really breathe easy until guard Pablo Bertone hit two free throws with 17 seconds left to make it a seven-point game at 70-63.
