Five Surprise Names Who Could Make the Indianapolis Colts Roster: Fan's Take

Yahoo Contributor Network

The Indianapolis Colts have a very young roster in training camp this season. The team released many injury-prone veterans and got much younger this offseason. This means that many unknown players could be on the team this upcoming season. Listed below are five players who could surprise many and make the final roster out of training camp in 2012.

Jerrell Freeman

Freeman is a fast linebacker that joined the team in the offseason. Freeman has been seeing reps with the starting defense and is currently listed as a backed at inside linebacker to starter Pat Angerer. I think Freeman would be a quality young backup and strong special teams player.

George Foster

Foster has been out of the league for several years but is currently being listed as a backup at left tackle. Anthony Castonzo will be depended on to be the starter, but Foster could be a valuable backup at both tackle positions. He's certainly a big player and would fit in with the teams desire to bulk up along the line this season. I think he stands a good shot to make the roster if he can perform during the preseason.

Dominique Jones

Jones has good size at six-foot-three and 255 pounds. Jones has played before in the UFL and indoor football league. The Indianapolis offense is looking to feature the tight end position and the only sure things to make the roster are rookies Coby Fleener and Dwayne Allen. Jones has immersed on different occasions this offseason and could make the final roster.

Korey Lindsey

Lindsey was signed by Indianapolis after being released this offseason by the Arizona Cardinals. Lindsey is currently listed fourth out of 11 cornerbacks competing for jobs. The preseason games will separate the real players from those who won't make the roster out of training camp. Lindsey could be a player that could stick if he can perform well throughout the preseason.

Justin Hickman

Hickman is learning a new position at outside linebacker but could make the roster as a pass rush specialist out of training camp. He comes from the the Arena Football League and has never made an NFL roster. If he shows good understanding of the Colts' defensive scheme, he could claim a roster spot. There are definitely spots up for grab at the linebacker positions.
