Through four games of the 2012 season, the Indianapolis Colts have already matched their win total from the 2011 season. A few players have disappointed with their play early on though. These players have plenty of time to improve this year but I expected more out of them this season.
Castonzo was drafted to be the future of the franchise at left tackle. He's faced three of the best pass rushers in the NFL so far, but has appeared to struggle at times. The play of the entire offensive line has been bad which has shadowed some of Castonzo's play. Hopefully his play will improve when he doesn't have to face Clay Matthews
, Julius Peppers
and Jared Allen
in the coming weeks.
Satele was signed to anchor the offensive line after Jeff Saturday left in free agency. Satele missed a game and left two others injured so he can certainly improve his play quickly. Satele hasn't been impressive in the time he's played so far though. Fans hope Satele can improve as the season goes on and turn into the player Ryan Grigson thought he was getting when they signed him this offseason.
Fleener has struggled catching the ball at times this season. He has 13 catches for 139 yards but hasn't been the factor fans thought he would be when the team selected him in the second round. Fleener is still a rookie and is on pace for respectable numbers in his rookie season. I expected him to be more of a weapon and hopefully Fleener can still evolve into that this year.
I think Zbikowski has been the biggest disappointment on the team so far. He came over from the vaunted Baltimore defense where he was never given a strong change to play. Now Zbikowski is proving why he never earned playing time there. He's yet to make an impact play and is one of the weak links on defense through the first four games.
One of the few Pro Bowl players on the roster, Bethea hasn't seemed to be as comfortable in the new defense so far. He went an entire game without a tackle against Jacksonville, which was a shock for Bethea. I think he'll continue to play better and return to the form fans are used to this season.
