Sunday's season finale against the New York Jets could be the swan song for Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, says the Buffalo News.
Fitzpatrick has been inconsistent since signing a $62 million extension last year, and the Bills can get out from under the contract if they decline a roster bonus due in March.
The entire staff of Coach Chan Gailey is on the hot seat in Buffalo after three non-winning seasons for a franchise that has not made the playoffs since 1999. Fitzpatrick is 18-31 as a starter for the Bills and knows that coach and quarterback usually receive the bulk of the blame for such shortcomings.
“I am not going to sit up here and say we performed the way we wanted to on offense this year because we have not,” Fitzpatrick said. “So I think as a quarterback, I have to point the finger at myself. As an offense we point the finger at ourselves in terms of the lack of success we have had this year as a team. You hope the defensive guys do that as well, but for me there is not a whole lot of blame to be passed around. You have to look at yourself first.”
