The Chicago Fire's partnership with Spanish power Atletico Madrid has paid dividends for second-year defender Jalil Anibaba.
The former University of North Carolina standout is training with Atletico Madrid for a two-week period, joining the reigning UEFA Europa League champions and star striker Radamel Falcao as he looks to maintain sharpness during the MLS offseason. He will be with the club that trails Barcelona by just three points in the Spanish Liga table until Dec. 2.
"This is a fantastic chance for Jalil to train with a world-class club," Fire head coach Frank Klopas told the club's official website. "We’re very fortunate to have a partnership that affords our players with these opportunities."
Anibaba made a team-high 32 starts for the Fire this season, playing on a back line alongside German World Cup veteran Arne Friedrich, MLS Rookie of the Year Austin Berry and Costa Rican veteran Gonzalo Segares.
