With just one win from June through August, FC Dallas faded from the Western Conference elite. But Saturday's 3-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps might be the jolt it needs to get back on track. Follow GOAL.COM on Twitter
Mauro Diaz struck the 87th-minute winner, Jair Benitez added a spectacular insurance strike and Dallas (10-7-10) moved back into playoff positioning with the victory.
Daigo Kobayashi gave Vancouver (10-10-7) the lead four minutes in. Slipping behind the Dallas back line, the Japanese playmaker connected with a low Kenny Miller cross from the right flank and hit his shot past Chris Seitz.
Four minutes later, Dallas equalized. Je-Vaughn Watson collected a pass on the edge of the box, took a touch to evade Nigel Reo-Coker's marking and fired a rising shot the beat David Ousted at the near post.
After those frantic opening minutes, the score sheet was kept clean until three minutes from full time, when Diaz ran onto Fabian Castillo's looping cross and slammed a volley home.
And two minutes later, Benitez doubled the advantage when he controlled the ball near midfield, saw Ousted lingering off his line and beat the goalkeeper with an ambitious chip.
