Fantasy TE tips: Packers' Finley could be on the upswing

Notes on a resurgent Jermichael Finley and Marcedes Lewis, and more, are in PFW's Week 12 fantasy tips for tight ends.

Packers TE Jermichael Finley looks like he could start making more of a fantasy impact after his best game since the season opener. After catching only 10 passes in the previous five games, Finley caught a 20-yard TD pass in the Packers’ victory over the Lions in Week 11, in addition to setting up the game-winning score with a nifty 40-yard catch-and-run the likes of which hadn’t been seen from him this season. Even though the Packers have receiving weapons galore even without Greg Jennings back in the lineup, look for Finley to be worthy of fantasy starting status for your league’s stretch drive.

Keep playing Raiders TE Brandon Myers with the middling Bengals pass defense next on Oakland’s slate. Myers has averaged six catches for 57 in the past three games and he has scored three TDs in that span even though he dropped a would-be TD in Week 11. He’s developed into a trusted target for QB Carson Palmer.

Outside of Justin Blackmon, no Jaguar benefitted more from Chad Henne’s sterling relief appearance in Week 11 than TE Marcedes Lewis, who doubled his 2012 TD total against the Texans. Henne found Lewis on a beautiful jump ball in the endzone, something Blaine Gabbert simply couldn’t do on a consistent basis. No team in the league has struggled to cover TEs quite like the Titans — Jacksonville's Week 12 opponent — and Lewis could be primed for another big outing.

The Jaguars surrendered 17 catches for 159 yards and three TDs to Texans TEs in Week 11, a promising sign for fantasy owners of Titans TE Jared Cook, who found the endzone for a 26-yard score in Tennessee’s 37-3 thrashing of the Dolphins prior to the Titans’ bye. Cook was targeted just three times by Jake Locker in the contest, but expect him to be targeted more when the Titans visit Jacksonville on Sunday.

In Charlie Batch's three starts from 2010-11, Steelers TE Heath Miller has just five catches for 75 yards and no TDs (eight targets). That said, Miller has been a key part of Todd Haley's offense this season and remains quite startable against Cleveland in Week 12. Miller was targeted five times in Week 11, catching 2-22-0.

Browns TE Benjamin Watson hauled in a pair of TDs in Week 11 and racked up 47 yards receiving on four catches. Overall, he was targeted eight times, which equaled a season high. The uptick in targets gives Watson's fantasy value a slight boost but doesn't make him a top-caliber waiver-wire acquisition just yet.
