Fantasy Football: Five sleepers for Week 3

Here are five sleeper picks in daily fantasy football for Week 3 of the NFL season.

Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill

So far Tannehill and the Dolphins have had a brutal schedule, facing the Seahawks and the Patriots. Considering the competition, Tannehill’s numbers (573 yards, two touchdowns) really aren’t that bad at all. Things get much easier this week as Miami hosts the Cleveland Browns, who are giving up an average of 17.5 fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks so far. Tannehill is a low cost option with potential for big production.

Running back: Frank Gore

Old man Gore has been relatively quite so far this season. Through two games he’s only rushed for 103 yards and has not scored a rushing touchdown. Look for that to change this week as the Colts host the San Diego Chargers, who were one of the worst run defense teams in the league last year. This season they’re giving up 18.5 fantasy points per game to running backs. If anybody is due for a breakout performance, this is it.

Wide receiver: Tajae Sharpe

Sharp may not qualify as a fantasy sleeper for much longer, so get in on the action while you can. So far the Oakland Raiders defense has been a major disappointment and they’re allowing more points than any other team as well as the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. All Sharp needs to be worth a play is to get over the top of their defense for one long ball.

Tight end: Eric Ebron

Everyone seems concerned about Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offensive struggles. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball they’re having trouble covering tight ends. So far only two teams are allowing more fantasy points at the position. Ebron looks to be the beneficiary this week. A couple of red-zone targets could mean a huge game for the third-year North Carolina product.

Defense: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jeff Fisher says he doesn’t want anymore 7-9 bull****. For that to happen his team needs some serious improvement on offense. Through two games the Rams have scored a grand total of nine points and have yet to even sniff the end-zone. The Buccaneers defense added some help this offseason in Robert Ayers and Brent Grimes, which should give them a chance for a shutout and a pair of turnovers.
