Good fantasy managers are always looking for ways to improve their teams. Below are wide receivers who played well in Week Five, despite being owned in fewer than 10% of Yahoo fantasy leagues when the week began.
1. Devery Henderson, New Orleans Saints
Henderson is in his ninth year with the Saints and has had five seasons with at least 30 catches. With the exit of Robert Meachem, Henderson had a chance to increase his fantasy value this year. In Week Five, Lance Moore was a late scratch and tight end Jimmy Graham was injured early, opening the door for Henderson to have a big performance in a game when quarterback Drew Brees was setting the NFL record for most consecutive games with a touchdown pass. Brees grabbed the record on a 40-yard toss to Henderson, who ended with eight receptions, 123 yards and the touchdown. If we knew Moore and Graham would be out again, Henderson could be a must-start fantasy play. However, the Saints have a bye week now, giving Moore and Graham time to heal. Henderson was owned in only 6% of leagues.
2. Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns
Gordon caught two passes in Week Five, but they were both touchdowns. With 82 receiving yards on the two plays, Gordon had a nice fantasy day. This could be a breakout game for Gordon, who was owned in only 2% of leagues. Quarterback Brandon Weeden has put up good numbers so far, and the Browns will be losing and passing often this year. If Gordon could become the top long threat target for Weeden, he would have definite fantasy value. He is worth a roster spot right now in deeper leagues and keeper formats.
3. Jordan Norwood, Cleveland Browns
Again, fantasy owners have waited for years for the Browns to find a top receiver. In Week Five Norwood showed potential by catching nine passes for 81 yards. It was his career high in receiving yards and the only time he has caught more than five passes in a game. If Weeden begins to target Norwood this often on a regular basis, he would be a great flex option in most leagues. He was available in nearly 100% of leagues, so you can likely wait to watch another game before adding him.
