Fantasy Football 2012 Week 3 Top-Scoring IDPs: Fan’s Review

Yahoo Contributor Network

IDPs in Week 3 of the NFL season had a great week of production. With 70 sacks, 24 interceptions, and five defensive touchdowns, team defenses as a whole kept 12 teams to 20 points or less this week. With a huge pool of players to choose from in IDP leagues, here are the top 10 IDP scorers from Week 3.

9 (tied). DE J.J. Watt, Houston Texans, LB DeMarcus Ware, Dallas Cowboys, DE Michael Johnson, Cincinnati Bengals, LB Dannell Ellerbe, Baltimore Ravens, & LB Justin Houston, Kansas City Chiefs - 11.50

Watt's Week 3 statistics: 6 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle, 2.5 sacks

Ware's Week 3 statistics: 2 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles

Johnson's Week 3 statistics: 5 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle, 3 sacks

Ellerbe's Week 3 statistics: 8 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle, 1.5 sacks

Houston's Week 3 statistics: 3 solo tackles, 1 assist tackle, 3 sacks, 1 safety

7 (tied). LB Rob Jackson, Washington Redskins - 12.00

Week 3 statistics: 3 solo tackles, 1 interception, 1 touchdown

One of the few defensive players to score a touchdown this week, Jackson had his first career interception off of Andy Dalton. Due to Brian Orakpo's season-ending injury, Jackson may be in a great position to put up good numbers this season.

7 (tied). LB Takeo Spikes, San Diego Chargers - 12.00

Week 3 statistics: 11 solo tackles, 2 assist tackles

Spikes had his most productive game of the season with 11 total tackles and a sack on Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. Despite the big individual performance, he had only one tackle last week, showing how he cannot be trusted as a consistent IDP.

6. LB Navarro Bowman, San Francisco 49ers - 12.50

Week 3 statistics: 7 solo tackles, 11 assist tackles

With the Minnesota Vikings sticking to running Adrian Peterson often, Bowman had a big game tackling him and other offensive players. Obviously a top-notch IDP last year and this year, Bowman leads all linebackers with 37 total tackles on the season.

5. S Atari Bigby, San Diego Chargers - 13.00

Week 3 statistics: 11 solo tackles, 4 assist tackles

With the Falcons focusing more on the pass than the run, Bigby had a great game all over the field with a team-high 15 total tackles. Averaging nine total tackles a game so far this season, he is a decent DB2.

3 (tied). LB Philip Wheeler, Oakland Raiders - 15.00

Week 3 statistics: 7 solo tackles, 4 assist tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery

Wheeler once again put up a solid week of production against a Pittsburgh Steelers offense that was efficient in the passing game but struggled running the ball. Effective since joining the Raiders from the Indianapolis Colts in the offseason, he is starting to become a very good IDP option.

3 (tied). LB Akeem Ayers, Tennessee Titans - 15.00

Week 3 statistics: 10 solo tackles, 6 assist tackles, 1 sack

After having 11 and nine tackles in his first two games respectively, Ayers had his best game yet with a career-high 16 tackles and a sack. Benefiting from the absence of Colin McCarthy, Ayers is looking like a solid tackling option in the Titans defense.

1 (tied). LB Chad Greenway, Minnesota Vikings - 15.50

Week 3 statistics: 10 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles, 2 sacks

As the 49ers stuck to their guns as a running team, Greenway had an opportunity to pick up a nice number of tackles. The two sacks on Alex Smith are encouraging, as it may mean he'll be sent after the quarterback on passing plays more often.

1 (tied). CB Alterraun Verner, Tennessee Titans - 15.50

Week 3 statistics: 4 solo tackles, 3 assist tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 1 touchdown

From an interception last week to a fumble recovery for a touchdown this week, Verner has become a big play IDP this season. An excellent tackler in his rookie season with 101 total tackles, he could once again be in line for a great 2012 campaign.

*Point totals determined through standard Yahoo! scoring structure; IDP scoring: Tackle solo - 1 point, Tackle assist - 0.5, Sack - 2, Interception - 3, Fumble Force - 2, Fumble Recovery - 2, Defensive Touchdown - 6, Safety - 2, Return touchdown - 6
