Week 3 of the 2012 fantasy football season will feature many intriguing storylines. From players working through injuries to some rookies starting off this season well, Week 3 will have some players with uncertain fantasy value. Here's a look at intriguing over/under predictions for each Week 3 contest.
New York Giants at Carolina Panthers: QB Eli Manning over/under 324.5 yards from scrimmage - UNDER
In Week 2 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Manning had the eighth highest passing yard total in NFL history. He'll likely not have as easy of a time racking up yards against Carolina with Hakeem Nicks and Domenik Hixon out. While Manning will still be a solid start in Week 3, he'll have a tougher time with some of his targets missing.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Indianapolis Colts: WR Donnie Avery over/under 79.5 receiving yards - UNDER
Avery was Andrew Luck's favorite target in Week 2, as he had a career day with nine catches for 111 yards against the Minnesota Vikings. Looking like the team's No. 2 wide receiver, Avery is a solid starter in deeper leagues but will face a Jaguars defense that has limited opposing wide receivers for the most part this season.
Buffalo Bills at Cleveland Browns: TE Scott Chandler over/under 0.5 touchdowns - UNDER
With a touchdown in each of the Bills' first two games, Chandler is a top target for Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick in the end zone. A fast starter for the Bills last season, Chandler faces a Browns defense that has allowed one touchdown to a tight end so far this season. While he accomplished a touchdown in each of the first three games in 2011, it'll be a tough task for him to do it again in 2012.
New York Jets at Miami Dolphins: RB Reggie Bush over/under 19.5 carries - OVER
In Week 2, Bush had a career day with 26 carries and 172 yards on the ground. With Daniel Thomas returning in Week 3 and Lamar Miller starting to impress, Bush will likely play less against the Jets. That being said, the Dolphins will struggle in the passing game against the Jets feared secondary, meaning Bush should see his fair share of work in Week 3.
Kansas City Chiefs at New Orleans Saints: QB Drew Brees over/under 1.5 interceptions - UNDER
As the Saints go 0-2 to start the season, Brees has started off the year with an uncharacteristic two interceptions in each of the team's first two games. Dealing with an ankle injury he received in Week 2 against the Panthers, he'll face a Chiefs defense that has allowed five touchdowns and zero interceptions to opposing quarterbacks. Even with a minor ankle injury, Brees should once again put up a great start in what the Saints hope to be their first win of the season.
Cincinnati Bengals at Washington Redskins: QB Robert Griffin III over/under 299.5 total yards - OVER
Griffin makes his much-anticipated home debut at FedEx Field against the Bengals. A dynamic passer and runner against the Saints and St. Louis Rams, he has showcased his abilities on the ground and in the air. Facing a Bengals defense that has struggled so far this season, Griffin should have another big game in Week 3.
Detroit Lions at Tennessee Titans: RB Mikel LeShoure over/under 34.5 rushing yards - OVER
After a season-ending injury last season and a two-game suspension to start this season, LeShoure finally gets a chance to play in his first NFL game. While Kevin Smith is still a factor in the Lions offense and LeShoure will need some time to get acclimated to the season, the Lions will face one of the worst run defense so far this season, meaning LeShoure could have a nice start to his 2012 season.
San Francisco 49ers at Minnesota Vikings: WR Randy Moss over/under 0.5 touchdowns - UNDER
For the first time in 14 years, Moss returns to Minnesota to face the Vikings as a member of the 49ers. While he has many memories against the team that drafted him in 1998, Moss has been a small part of the 49ers' plans on offense. Just on the field for 16 of a possible 61 snaps in Week 2 against the Lions, it will be difficult to expect another Moss touchdown in Week 3.
St. Louis Rams at Chicago Bears: WR Danny Amendola over/under 9.5 receptions - OVER
In Week 2, Amendola caught a career-high 15 passes against the Redskins. A force particularly in PPR leagues, he has been a big weapon for Sam Bradford and should be targeted plenty of times once again against the Bears. While 10 or more catches is a high number, Amendola is one of the few receivers who has a high chance at reaching that mark on a weekly basis.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Dallas Cowboys: QB Tony Romo over/under 1.5 passing touchdowns - OVER
In Week 2, Romo had a disappointing start with only one touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks. A game against the Buccaneers will be very welcome to him, as he has 11 touchdowns in three career games against the Buccaneers, including at least three touchdowns in every start. With so many weapons around him, Romo should be able to once again have a great start in Week 3.
Atlanta Falcons at San Diego Chargers: TE Antonio Gates over/under 64.5 receiving yards - OVER
After missing Week 2, Gates should be good to go for Week 3 against the Falcons. Given what Dante Rosario did in Gates' place last week, tight ends in San Diego are always in line for potentially good numbers. With him looking good in practice, Gates should also benefit from the chemistry he has with quarterback Philip Rivers and have a fine Week 3 performance.
Philadelphia Eagles at Arizona Cardinals: TE Brent Celek over/under 5.5 receptions - OVER
After a career performance against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, Celek will face a more difficult Arizona team in Week 3. Last season against the Cardinals, he gained 53 yards on four catches and could be stifled once again. However, after the connection Celek and Michael Vick apparently have, the tight end could be a top target for Vick once again in Week 3.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders: QB Ben Roethlisberger over/under 259.5 passing yards - OVER
Roethlisberger has a favorable matchup against the Raiders in Week 3. With a makeshift running game, Pittsburgh should continue to let him throw the ball, as he has been off to an extremely efficient start for the Steelers. The Raiders have yet to force an interception this season, thus adding to Roethlisberger's stock as a decent Week 3 starting option.
Houston Texans at Denver Broncos: QB Peyton Manning over/under 2.5 passing touchdowns - UNDER
Going back to his days as the Colts starting quarterback, Manning has had a great history against the Texans, recording 5,122 passing yards and 42 touchdowns in his 18 career games against Houston. While he's been great against Houston in the past, he's facing a much different defense that has been dominant so far against lesser starting quarterbacks (Ryan Tannehill and Blaine Gabbert) to start the season. In what will be Denver's toughest test to date, Manning could run into a wall against a great Texans defense.
New England Patriots at Baltimore Ravens: TE Kellen Winslow over/under 1.5 receptions - UNDER
With Aaron Hernandez out for an extended amount of time, the Patriots went ahead and signed veteran Winslow to replace him. While he's taking the place of a very productive receiver, he is still unsure of his Week 3 status and may not play. Even if he does make an appearance in Week 3, Winslow still has his knee problems to worry about and could be a nonfactor against the Ravens.
Green Bay Packers at Seattle Seahawks: WR Randall Cobb over/under 59.5 receiving yards - OVER
After a surprising performance in Week 1, Cobb had a disappointing one in Week 2. With Greg Jennings still possibly sidelined in Week 3 against the Seahawks, Cobb is once again in a position of opportunity. Despite working through his own hamstring injury during practice this week, Cobb could be a heavy target in the passing game, for Seattle has a solid run defense.
