Fantasy Baseball 2012: Week 25 Waiver Wire Batters, Deep League Pickups

Yahoo Contributor Network

In deeper fantasy baseball leagues, finding useful batters on the waiver wire can be a very difficult task. With most popular free agent choices already owned, owners in deeper or AL/NL-only leagues often have to dig at even less popular batters for fantasy production. Here's a look at five batters owned in less than 10% of Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Baseball leagues* who are worth adding for Week 25.

2B/SS Everth Cabrera, San Diego Padres (9% owned*)

Statistics*: 86/361 H/AB, 42 R, 2 HR, 24 RBI, 34 SB, .238 AVG

A speedster with already 34 steals on the season, he has been an inconsistent hitter this season. With that kind of speed, he could be a season-changer in the championship week in head-to-head leagues or for a final push at the steals category in rotisserie leagues. If steals are a need to end the season, pick up Cabrera.

1B/2B/3B Jeff Keppinger, Tampa Bay Rays (9% owned)

Statistics: 117/353 H/AB, 41 R, 7 HR, 35 RBI, 1 SB, .331 AVG

Always a good contact hitter, Keppinger was particularly on point in Week 24 with three three-hit games. Recently getting over a slump from not too long ago, he has been a great asset lately for scoring runs and improving team's batting average. With good versatility to boot, Keppinger is a solid add in deeper leagues for the end of the season.

1B Justin Smoak, Seattle Mariners (8% owned)

Statistics: 94/448 H/AB, 42 R, 16 HR, 45 RBI, 1 SB, .210 AVG

Blasting the ball as of late, Smoak has been racking up many multi-hit games like Keppinger. Beating out Mike Carp for the majority of playing time at first base, he has been a solid performer despite fewer home runs in these last months. Smoak is a solid AL-only or deep league option.

1B/OF Brandon Moss, Oakland Athletics (8% owned)

Statistics: 62/228 H/AB, 37 R, 19 HR, 41 RBI, 0 SB, .272 AVG

One of the many unknown faces producing in Oakland, Moss has been solid all month for the Athletics. While he is definitely prone to strikeouts, he has been great at making important hits and would be a good addition to any team needing a reliable solid hitter for the rest of the year.

OF Adam Eaton, Arizona Diamondbacks (3% owned)

Statistics: 16/59 H/AB, 15 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 2 SB, .271 AVG

On fire when he first joined the Diamondbacks at the start of the month, Eaton has been surprisingly good in his short tenure with the team. A very good hitter in the minors, he has gotten an opportunity to start everyday as the Diamondbacks fell out of the playoff race. With good speed and a solid on-base percentage, he is a player who could be a nice all-around contributor in these final games.
